Hypnotherapy Explained

Anneliis Way Hypnotherapy - Hypnotherapy Explained - What is Hypnosis

What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a naturally occurring state of mind that is produced through focused attention. Have you ever been reading a book in a noisy place, unaware of the sounds and people around you? Perhaps you have been lost in a daydream during a class or meeting? If so you have experienced the state of consciousness known as hypnosis.

During hypnosis, the analytical mind takes a break. Think about the example above. When you are reading a great novel, the analytical mind doesn’t interject to tell you that each page is fantasy. It steps back and allows your imagination to have the stage.

In and of itself hypnosis is neither beneficial nor harmful. It does however, allow the analytical, judgemental mind to relax, and this enables greater communication with the subconscious mind. If you have something you would like to change, this is significant as the subconscious mind drives up to 95% of your behaviour.

What is hypnotherapy?

The subconscious mind is a powerful tool. It holds your memories, feelings and beliefs about yourself and the world. When you use it in therapy, desired life changes can be brought about very efficiently.

Hypnotherapy helps you to change behaviour by combining a hypnotic state with positive suggestions or other therapeutic techniques. It provides you with a way to discover and treat the cause of an issue, rather than treating the symptoms alone.

Using hypnotherapy, you can gently bring into awareness unwanted or unhelpful habits, thoughts, feelings and behaviours, so that you can understand and transform them.

Anneliis utilises elements of the following forms of psychotherapy during hypnotherapy sessions:

  • cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT)

  • gestalt therapy

  • inner child work

  • neuro linguistic programming (NLP)

  • parts therapy

  • regression therapy
